London's Escalade 2016 marked in St. Moritz

We're grateful to Robin Dormer (LGB '69) for once again taking the lead on organizing the London Ecolint Escalade Dinner, with his trusty lieutenants Jenny Hargreaves (LGB '61) and Sally Verity Smith (LGB '75). Robin sent us the report below.

"On Monday 12 December—the actual day for once—a very full attendance of UK-based alumni gathered at the customary venue of the St. Moritz Restaurant in London’s Soho district (it is London’s only Swiss restaurant) to celebrate Escalade in the traditional manner. Despite a glitch in the kitchen, which resulted in rather late fondues and a consequently somewhat higher than usual consumption of Chasselas, a good time was had by all.

We greatly appreciated the presence of Brian Wahlen, Ecolint’s Development Officer, who had flown over from Geneva to represent the School; and Agnes de Guzman (LGB '90) and he gave a short presentation about the Ecolint UK Charitable Trust and about the development projects that Ecolint is currently contemplating.

The marmite, kindly supplied by the Ecolint Alumni Office (many thanks to Eoghan O’Sullivan), arrived with some orthopaedic injuries, but the restaurant’s owner, Mr. Armin Loetscher (who in an earlier life used to make marmites in Carouge) performed emergency surgery to re-attach a leg and the two handles using molten chocolate from his kitchen, so all was well. The marmite was duly smashed by our doughty doyenne Margaret Spector (LGB '58) and by our most youthful participant, Aasmund Godal (La Chât 98), to the traditional recitation Ainsi périssent les ennemis de la République."

The full list of participants was (all LGB unless otherwise stated): André Astrow ('74), Gilbert Bastyra ('65), Joaquin Beyer ('80) and his wife Anneke Callaerts, Monica Bloch ('71), Agnes de Guzman Borges ('90), Martin de Blocq (La Chât '84), Robin Dormer ('69), Helen Elliott ('82) and her husband Jeremy Elliott, Aasmund Godal (La Chât '98) and his partner Albina Sitdikova, Charles Goodman (La Chât '84), Peter Green ('69), Julia Halle ('69), Jenny Hargreaves ('61) (one of our three co-organisers; the third—Sally Verity Smith ('75)—was unfortunately unable to attend), Gordon McKechnie ('70), Roger Murray ('67), Kim Perry ('68), Sherman Sam (La Chât '85), Asad Shaheed ('69), Margaret Spector ('58), Kelly Stelle ('66), Marianne Velmans ('69), Brian Wahlen (Ecolint Development Officer), Sushama Widger ('66), Simone Wieser ('73), Liz Winter ('61) and Steven Zimmer ('72).

Margaret Spector (Morris) (Spector) says...
Posted mercredi 1 février 2017
The dinner was a success as usual but on a sad note my school and longlife friend Eugenia Chossudovsky was no longer with us to enjoy it. We had a toast in remembrance of her. Margaret Spector
