Escalade in a land down under
mercredi 21 décembre 2016
Our Aussie alumni took a break from the Escalade last year, but came back with another big gathering for 2016. Matt Balogh was at the helm once again and kindly sent us this report and photos.
"Escalade Sydneyoise 2016 was held on Saturday 10 December in the courtyard of the Duck Inn, central city pub. 17 LGB alumni were present plus Susan Norbom from La Châtaigneraie, and Kristen Mann from College du Leman, who was visiting Ariella Ryner from Lake Tahoe on California.
Harriet Hromas took on the role of the most senior person present, while Karim Burkhardt’s daughter, Laila, the role of the apprentice, in Marmite shattering. Paul Tooker and his wife travelled from the Sunshine Coast of Queensland for the event, Helen Butler Hoven and husband Mark came up from Melbourne, as did Andrew Buckle. Samantha Parker travelled the furthest, from Auckland in New Zealand (that’s about 3 hours’ flight away).
The Sydney alumni group have been meeting from time-to-time for 30 years, making this band of re-unionists arguably the most active outside of Geneva. Luc Marin-Curtoud was the only one to dress suitably for the occasion in an Ecolint sweatshirt.
December being the first month of summer in Australia, the Escalade Marmite did well to survive the journey, despite fatigued legs, with big thanks to Eoghan O’Sullivan at the Alumni office and all the team there."
The Ecolint alumni in attendance were: Ariella Ryner (LGB '93), Robert Horninge (LGB '74), Janet Dawson (LGB '74), Karim Burkhardt (LGB '85), Luc Marin-Curtoud (LGB '83), Samantha Parker (LGB '84), Helen Butler Hoven (LGB '83), Rebecca Murray (Gauci) (LGB '76), Paul Tooker (LGB '71), Harriet (Wilson) Hromas (LGB '60), Susan Norbom (La Chât '80), Matt Balogh (LGB '80), Fiona Manning (LGB '83?), Cicely Sylow (LGB '03), Marcus Sherwood (LGB '80), Andrew Buckle (LGB '64), Karen Barnett Keegan (LGB '85), Ross Dawson (LGB '80), Phillip Wheeler (LGB '64).
