A first Escalade for Jerusalem

We were delighted when Noga Tarnopolsky (LGB '84) got in touch last October with an offer to organize the first ever Ecolint Escalade Dinner in Jerusalem. As it happens, the event was delayed for various reasons and ended up being postponed until mid-January. Noga kindly sent us the report and photos below.

"I am pleased to report that our inaugural Jerusalem Escalade party, though much delayed, was a great success. Eleven of us gathered at my place, shared fondue and many memories and concluded the soirée with a digestif and a fabulously smashed marmite.

We were a very varied and interesting bunch: the Regional Director of UNICEF for the Palestinian territories; the curator of a museum of archaeology; the owner of an elite lingerie boutique, all lace and silk; a police anti-fraud investigator; a litigator; a researcher of Israeli and Palestinian women's experiences of violence; and a journalist.

I was struck by the number of people, starting with Lior Alon (LGB '81), the curator, and the gent you see wearing Ecolint accessories in one of the pictures, who mentioned their years at Ecolint as the only years they'd be happy to return to. Danny Stang seconded the thought.

Our evening was conducted in fluent franglais, as is proper, and June Kunugi (LGB '84) insisted on singing Ah! La Belle Escalade as Sarah Linder (La Chât '04), the youngest among us and the only graduate of La Châtaigneraie, did the honours in smashing the marmite.

We all spoke about meeting up again soon. It was really a very warm and wonderful gathering."
