This week sees the release of Brave, the single and video by The Flocking Murmuration, a band counting three alumni among its members. Proceeds from sales of the single will go towards charities working with refugees and with people suffering from depression and cystic fibrosis.

The Flocking Murmuration took flight last year, describing their music as "gritty, melodic folk rock songs and bluesy grooves for all". They recently released their first EP, and the lead single is the hugely catchy and infectiously upbeat song Brave.

The song's video intersperses shots of the band in concert with footage of refugees provided by The Worldwide Tribe, one of the charities supported by the single. Their work involves using creative storytelling to highlight the humanity of the refugee crisis, supporting vital grassroots projects in Calais and Lesvos. 25% of sales and royalties will go directly to The Worldwide Tribe, while 10% will go towards supporting people suffering from depression and cystic fibrosis.

Alumni involvement

The Flocking Murmuration features Stef Pasternak (La Chât '94) on drums, percussion and backing vocals, Matt Welling (La Chât '01) on bass and double bass, and Dan Shaw (LGB '96) on lead vocals, guitar and songwriting duties. The line-up is completed by slide guitarist Marc Athlan.

Alumni involvement with this project doesn't stop with the band members. Their recorded output has been sound engineered by Nicolas Duboux (LGB '97). And, in a further link to Ecolint, their cooperation with The Worldwide Tribe owes a lot to the work of LGB Middle School teacher Marcus James.
