This is with great sadness that we learnt about the tragic aircrash in Africa which has taken away Stuart and Nadine Whitehurst on Friday 14th October 2011. Stuart worked at LGB from 1972 to 2003 as chemisty teacher in the secondary school for many years before teaching science in the middle school and later switching to computing. Nadine was also the school nurse at LGB from 1976 to 1985.
All
our sincerest condolences go to their daughters, both alumni, Natalie (LGB' 86) and Victoria (LGB' 89) and their families.
I was saddened to hear of the news. Mr Whitehurst taught me in chemistry in grade 7. He was demanding yet patient and had an uncanny way of connecting to us when we came fresh from grade 6. He was also very humorous and his attaching personality and sense of humour shone through in everything he did.
Later on in years we had a talk I will never forget, It was, uncharacteristically, at the Auberge so obviously I was now a young adult revisiting Geneva during a World Reunion. The one in 1984... Upon my return to Sweden to face the alienation I felt so acutely back then I recall that I benefitted greatly from Mr. Whitehurst's experience of life and wisdom. During that talk he expressed great concern and understanding för my situation and I felt greatly strengthened from it. That evening at the Auberge somehow became a firm reference point. He made the effort to understand me. I will never forget that.
To grieving family memebrs: We share your loss.
It was with great sadness that I heard of the catastrophic accident in Botswana which took the lives of two former staff members of Ecolint.
In the name of the Central Committee and on behalf of the alumni members I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the great loss encountered.
