Peter McCowen1. How long did you spend at Ecolint?
Two years – from 1951 to 1953 – was 13 when I left

2. How did you come to attend Ecolint in the first place?
My father was appointed deputy Director for a year under M.Roquette.  I was offered a scholarship to stay on for a second year and live with a Swiss family.

3. Which teacher had the biggest impact on you and how?
Miss Mellors – she encouraged us to learn through project work. I remember a lot about India having completed a project with a fellow Indian pupil.

4. What was your favourite spot on campus and why?
The Art Department – M. Stump taught me the technique of stenciling.

5. What was your favourite place in the wider region, and why?
Cycling round the lake, trips into the Jura and Savoy.

6. Describe your life today, where you live and what you do.
I am a social and organisational psychologist, now 74, and continue to be a life and work coach. I have particular interests in positive psychology and systemic psychotherapy and have worked with teachers to develop their resilience. I live in Bath in the UK.

7. What should be Ecolint's top priority as it approaches its 100th anniversary?
There are times in every teacher’s life that are pressured and stressful. It is essential to develop good formal and informal support systems for teachers amd support staff if they are to thrive.

8. What "words of wisdom" would you pass on to today's Ecolint students?
Keep up the friendships and contacts you make at Ecolint – you will find that you have friends for life.

9. What has been the biggest impact of your Ecolint education on your life?

Opening up my awareness and appreciation of different cultures and races. Also I became bi-lingual which enabled me live French culture and also set up and run my own training company in France.
