27. Melaye Ras-Work (LGB 1987)

Posted By Alumni Office, lundi, 22 septembre 2014
Melaye Ras-Work1. How long did you spend at Ecolint?
I spent 13 years at Ecolint – 4 years at Pregny and 9 years at LGB.

2. How did you come to attend Ecolint in the first place?
My family initially thought we were in Geneva for 4 years maximum; they wanted us to have an Anglophone education to help our re-insertion in Ethiopia upon our return. The Ethiopian revolution happened, we never went back, and luckily I got to stay at Ecolint!

3. Which teacher had the biggest impact on you and how?
Ms. Tempest was my Year 3 and 4 teacher at Pregny. She made school fun and fascinating and I learned to love school and learning thanks to her.

4. What was your favourite spot on campus and why?
At Pregny it was the courtyard where we played 4 square at every break. At LGB it was the courtyard between the old cafeteria and LGB where I spent countless hours chatting with friends.

5. What was your favourite place in the wider region, and why?
Down town Geneva – rue du Marché et les environs…

6. Describe your life today, where you live and what you do.
I co-founded a procurement consultancy in 2000 which has grown to 150 consultants across Europe. After 14 years in London my family and I moved back to Geneva for the amazing surroundings, lifestyle and, very importantly: Ecolint. My two kids attend Campus des Nations and I have had the privilege of serving on the board of Ecolint since 2010.

7. What should be Ecolint's top priority as it approaches its 100th anniversary?
Build on Ecolint’s leadership in child centred pedagogy to continue innovating in developing 21st century global thinkers and education for peace.

8. What "words of wisdom" would you pass on to today's Ecolint students?
Take advantage of the full Ecolint “offer”. The education is brilliant but the magic often is outside the classroom – learning from your friends, participating in sports, drama, music, and enjoying beautiful, peaceful setting of Genève et les environs.

9. What has been the biggest impact of your Ecolint education on your life?
An excellent academic grounding and the confidence to face the world and believe that I could uniquely contribute to it.
