64. Sandy Mackie (La Chât 1978)

Posted By Alumni Office, jeudi, 6 novembre 2014

(Now Sandy Tresise)

Sandy Mackie1. How long did you spend at Ecolint?
I was at the Lycée des Nations at Bellevue, then Rue Schaub, and then La Chât from when I was 7 in 1966 till when I was 13 in 1975.

2. How did you come to attend Ecolint in the first place?
My parents were keen on a small progressive school. Although my father had attended Ecolint in the late 1930s we were living in Founex and La Grande Boissière perhaps seemed too far away.

3. Which teacher had the biggest impact on you and how?
Mr Ian Mackay (history) because of his values and approach, and Mrs Gunter (school educational psychologist) because of her kindness.

4. What was your favourite spot on campus and why?
In the “woods” at the top of the garden in Bellevue, as we played great games there.

5. What was your favourite place in the wider region, and why?
Evolène in the Valais, where we used to go on holidays.

6. Describe your life today, where you live and what you do.
I live in sunny north Oxfordshire and have just finished working for the NHS in mental health (after some 32 years). I am currently considering my options, but it will include lots of time to be with my family, to walk and cycle and to read.  And hopefully some time in the Alps. I will also be in Scotland a lot with my mum and in the hills...

7. What should be Ecolint's top priority as it approaches its 100th anniversary?
Ensure that it is inclusive of all kids and does not only seek academic success but also encourages growth and moral development. Also that it remains rooted in local life.

8. What "words of wisdom" would you pass on to today's Ecolint students?
Perhaps just look after each other?

9. What has been the biggest impact of your Ecolint education on your life?
That people from all over the world can be friends and that we are all exceptional in different ways.
