1. What is your company’s product/service?
We provide people the opportunity to take action for nature

and society through volunteering world-wide with the issues of our time: environmental degradation and social inequality. We run projects across all the continents and we also host one of the web’s largest databases for volunteering overseas.

2. Where was it founded and where do you now have offices?
It was first founded in Begnins, Switzerland - now we work from the UK.

3. Number of employees at peak (and now)?

4. What was the hardest thing about building the company?
One word: perseverance. You fall down. You get up.

Each entrepreneur has to cut their own path through the forest, no-one else will do that for you. This is the hardest thing. And with that you have to live with a lot of uncertainty.

5. Where do you see your company in three years?
Currently we are the first organisation when you search for “Voluntary Work Abroad” on Google and we would like to maintain this position. Also we hope to work with more indigenous rights programmes in the next few years, especially in areas where the local indigenous knowledge is disappearing. For example, the San Bushmen when they reach twelve years of age would already know over two hundred plants by heart. Their way of life and knowledge is threatened today and I would like to develop programmes where they are supported.

6. Do any other Ecolint alumni work with you?
Yes my wife: Victoria McNeil (La Chât '90) - she is the other co-founder.

7. In what ways (if any!) did your Ecolint education help you in founding a company?
Ecolint was a catalyst in many ways for the work that we do, although I was a lazy student and could have done more work. Ecolint instilled in me a sense of wonder about the diversity of the world, and an allergic reaction towards bigotry. The interest to travel the world and to work with local communities was seeded at the back gate of Ecolint, of this I am sure. I met lifelong friends there, and other great people whom I miss and think about regularly.
