 Michael Knight   Michael Knight

1. When did you work at the International School of Geneva and what was/were your role(s)?
From 1961 to 2001 – History and then, as well Theory of Knowledge once it began. Both were enthralling voyages of discovery for me – although the recipients might well have had a different view! Most memorable was being involved in the creation of the IB, and in particular the formulation of the History programme of the IB in the later 1960s, followed by an extensive period over subsequent years examining for the IB and developing the programme, and the materials for it.

2. Describe your life today, where you live and what you do.
Living on the edge of the Geneva countryside in Puplinge. Making tea and coffee at the appropriate moments for the resident children's novelist. Writing the occasional historical essay, reading the continuing flood of history publications past, present (and no doubt future), corresponding with the odd newspaper when roused, a well as with several old (increasingly old!) school friends. Listening to and writing about lots of music, also past and present. Sometimes slipping off to London for the theatre, the galleries and the ballet - as well as the shopping - and to Italy in the summer to recharge the batteries.

3. What are your strongest memories of working at Ecolint?
Of course the long parade of splendid students, now become distinguished in their careers. But also the equally long parade of colleagues who became close friends. And then the whole unique atmosphere of Ecolint – indefinable but palpable: an enhancing life experience for anyone fortunate enough to have lived it.

4. To what extent do you like to keep in touch with former students and colleagues?
Less than I would like with former students , but perhaps this will change with the present venture. With former colleagues - sadly the march of time intrudes. However when the occasion arises one reminisces.
