American by birth, Joe Dassin was one of France's most popular singers during the late '60s and '70s. He started out singing stylized adaptations of American folk and country but later turned to traditional-style chansons. His hits included Les Champs Élysées (1969) and L'Eté Indien (1975).  He died of a heart attack in 1980 at the age of 41. He attended Ecolint from 1954-56.
