In New York on Tuesday 21 April she will host a drinks reception at the National Arts Club. The venue has been made available to us thanks to Robert Seyffert, an artist whose family have extensive ties with Switzerland and with Ecolint (particularly La Châtaigneraie). We are grateful to him for his support in organising this event.

The reception will run from 7pm to 9pm and will take place in the Marquis Gallery. At approximately 8pm there will be some brief remarks from Vicky Tuck, Robert Seyffert and, on behalf of the Ecolint Alumni New York City Chapter, Peggy Troupin (LGB '60) and Jonathan Merson (LGB '95).

All alumni based in and around New York are welcome to attend. Please indicate your intention to attend by clicking the REGISTER button above. (You will need to sign in to the website first. If you have forgotten your password you will be given an option to reset it; and if you do not yet have a website account you can create one here.)

The Venue

We are delighted to be able to host this event at such a prestigious venue as the National Arts Club, a private club in Gramercy Park, Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in 1898 and the mansion in which it is headquartered was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

Our use of the National Arts Club is made possible through the generous cooperation of one of its members, artist Robert Seyffert. Mr. Seyffert's grandfather was the portrait artist Leopold Seyffert. Mr. Seyffert writes:

The story of the sons of artists Leopold and Helen Seyffert (Richard b. 1915 and Peter b. 1917) and their education began with their being sent to boarding school at La Chât from 1929-1934 (when the Ecole Nouvelle du Léman was on that site). Somewhat inspired by the medals for sports kept by Richard Seyffert (see below), the stories of the school were often told, one being that their athletic father hit a cricket ball so hard it was never found. There was often a mention of Colonel and Mrs. Fox.

Helen Fleck got an apartment in Geneva during the late 1920s to be nearer the boys and eventually met print dealer Jean Goriany, marrying him upon her divorce from Seyffert. Their life in Switzerland led to her painting landscapes there. Upon her sons finishing school at La Chât they spent the summer travelling with their father, with cigarette here photographed in 1934 with Ernest Hemingway in Hendaye, France. Peter Seyffert is to the right of Hemingway and Richard all the way to the right.

Robert Seyffert's father and uncle were at La Chât during its first incarnation as the Ecole Nouvelle du Léman. It was founded in 1908 and lasted until 1954, when the Collège Protestant Romand took over on the same site. That in turn was followed by the Collège Internationale de La Châtaigneraie from 1971, which together with the Lycée des Nations (which was renting classroom space there) merged with the Ecole Internationale de Genève, creating the Foundation as we know it today.
