This year saw the third annual Escalade Dinner for Atlanta, the second time around for Chicago, and a debut in Silicon Valley.

Silicon Valley

West Coast USA has seen very little Ecolint Alumni action in the last few years, but it came back in a big way this year with first Escalade Dinners in Los Angeles, Seattle and Silicon Valley. The latter was hosted by Lynn and Edgar Auslander, parents of Claire and Nathalie, who were students at Ecolint until the family left Switzerland in 2011.

Lynn reports that the party went very well. "We all had a lovely time and it was wonderful meeting and getting to know such warm and kind Ecolint friends. We hope to continue the tradition next year.  We all enjoyed the tradition of breaking the marmite and passing around the chocolate and marzipan."

There was probably a wider age range of alumni at this event than at any other this year: from Class of 1959 to Class of 2023! The full list of alumni who attended (some with spouses) was: Claire Auslander  (LGB '22), Nathalie Auslander (LGB '23), Mary Calderwood (LGB '63), Susan Ward Schofield (LGB '62), Martin Lowe (La Chât '75), Gwen Kessler-Luce (LGB '59), Robin Bradley  (LGB '74), Steve Ray  (LGB '74), Teri Randall  (LGB '76) and Stephen Tobias (LGB '62).

Carrie Eccleston (LGB '90) got the ball rolling for the first Chicago Escalade Dinner last year; this year Catrina Hays (La Chât '91) took up the challenge, organizing a dinner at Bistro Margot in the city's Old Town neighbourhood.

While many alumni sent their apologies for various reasons, there was still a good turnout. Present for the dinner were Carrie Eccleston (LGB '90), Joakim Weidemanis (LGB '87) and his wife, Stanislav Smith (LGB '64), Catrina Hays (La Chât '91), Charles Darwall (LGB '76) and his wife, and Ann [full name and class year to be confirmed]. William Lipper (LGB '60) and his wife were also present for the pre-dinner drink.

Catrina wrote to say that "the marmite was amazingly yummy and broken vigorously". In fact, it was broken so vigorously that Carrie suffered from a small cut on her hand - from chocolate! Who knew?!

Vigorous smashing of the marmite, resulting in at least one injured hand!

A well-smashed marmite.

Barbara Talbott (LGB '69) generously agreed to host the Atlanta Escalade Dinner at her home on Thursday 10 December. She had such a good time that she decided to drive four hours to North Carolina two days later for the dinner hosted by Joann Nabb!

Barbara sent us this report on the Atlanta dinner:

"We started with a raclette appetizer using Terri Finister's (LGB '81) authentic machines from Geneva. For the main event, we shared fondue bourguignon. The smashing of the marmite was artfully handled by Mary Jane Bancroft (LGB '60) and Paige Huston (LGB '91). Our party of eleven also included Allen Hirons (LGB '70) and his wife Karen, Bethann Gillette Larson (LGB '67) and her husband Jon, Marian Grob-Scopa (LGB '76), and Kristy Hilderbrand Lampe (LGB '69) and her husband George. Party favors included the book, Dust on the Nettles by an LGB '69 student and a Swiss plate from Paige. The Genève sign in the photos lives in my garage."

Somewhere a city is missing its sign!

Nostalgia in print!

Ready for a Swiss feast.
