Cover of issue 18 of echo magazineThe Spring 2016 issue of echo magazine has begun landing on doormats and in postboxes around the world. It is also available to read online (sign-in required) and is packed with articles of interest to our alumni.

In the previous issue of echo we heard from a number of alumni active in the music industry. This time we turn the spotlight to architecture, meeting five alumni at different stages of their respective careers.

Bernard Plojoux (LGB '61) has had a long and distinguished career and was involved in a number of Ecolint projects, including the building of Les Marronniers (LGB Primary School). At the other end of the career path, Francisco Rodriguez Barrientos (Nations '12) is interning at an architecture firm in Geneva before heading back to finish his Master's degree. Luiana Makundi (LGB '94) studied in the USA and is now teaching at a university in Tanzania. Christine Mueller Gupta (Pregny/La Chât '92) co-founded a practice in India, while Ana Mekhala Olatramare (La Chât '91) has based her practice in Switzerland.

We were delighted when Yesim Atayolu, who boarded at LGB from 1979 to 1986, approached us with the idea of writing about life in the Ecolint boarding houses. As the founder of the "Ecolint Boarders" Facebook Group she was well-placed to gather reflections from other eras too. The end result is an excellent feature that looks back to an experience that no longer forms part of the Ecolint offer.

Coming full circle

Our regular feature on alumni who are now teaching at Ecolint appears again, this time featuring Anne Laurent (LGB/La Chât '85), who teaches at LGB Middle School, and Annemarie Ohms (La Chât '94), a Year 6 teacher at La Chât Primary School. You can also read about the library at La Chât Primary, which was named in honour of the late Keeney Weldon, a former teacher at Pregny-Rigot and La Chât.

Many alumni have fond memories of former Director General George Walker. Now enjoying his retirement, in this issue of echo he shares some thoughts on the linguistic challenges he faced when leading the Foundation. Looking much further back, our "From the archives" section looks at one of Ecolint's great eccentrics, former teacher Paul Dupuy.

And much more...

In addition to all of the above, you can also read about the Foundation-wide response to the refugee crisis in Europe (with Alexis McGivern (La Chât '11) among the contributors), a brief history of Ecolint histories, the project to reshape the Secondary curriculum at LGB, and efforts to foster enterprise among current students.

The cover photo shows Alexandre, the tree planted at LGB last year to replace its namesake that had been removed in the 1970s. We're happy to report that, since that cover photo was taken, spring has sprung and the tree is bursting into life in its new location.
