Hendrik Faller (LGB '06)Sometime in the mid-2000s, Mr Preece in the LGB Art Department sat Hendrik Faller (LGB '06) down in front of a computer, opened iMovie, and said "now go figure it out"! Fast forward a decade and the alumnus is about to premiere his first feature film, a post-apocalyptic thriller shot on the Salève.

The alumni community is invited to a special screening on Friday 26 August in the village of Monnetier-Mornex.

Hendrik Faller (pictured right) first started editing when taking IB Higher Arts, shooting footage with a small camera his parents gave him for his 17th birthday. Having later studied film production in the UK, at the Arts Institute of Bournemouth, he has spent the first years of his career shooting and editing documentaries. He has worked documenting a refugee camp in Lesvos, Greece, and is currently editing a feature length piece about education discrimination.

His first feature film, titled Dead Certain, has been three years in the making. It follows an Englishman who has to defend his home from local survivors in a post-apocalyptic landscape. The film is primarily in English, but also includes quite a bit of French dialogue. Hendrik worked with the local theatre society in Monnetier-Mornex to cast the French-speaking parts and is honouring this collaboration by holding the premiere screening in the village's Salle communale.

The early encouragement Hendrik received from Stephen Preece was instrumental in setting him on a path towards a career in film production. His earliest films, notably a video of chairs dancing to music, generated positive reactions from both classmates and teachers. He has been editing ever since.

Following next week's premiere, Hendrik and his team will begin the process of seeking film festival screenings and wider distribution. We wish him every success!
