Mary's family posted the following note in the days following her death:

We are very sad to inform you that Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on 4th September 2016, aged 60. A truly wonderful wife to John, mother to Jonathan, James, and Jack, Grandma to Jaidon, Jamie, Brooke and Harry.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1pm on 14th September at Amersham Crematorium, Buckinghamshire.  If you wish to contact the family, please email –

Summing up his own feelings on hearing the news, and using some of the thoughts expressed by others, Jens Krummel (La Chât '79) wrote:

"Mary was the 'essence of kindness', 'caring', 'gentle', 'warm', 'adored' by all who knew her. I myself knew her through my sister, one of her dearest friends, and will always remember her laughter, her generosity as a friend and hostess, and my own joy in her company. "

Her husband John is himself an alumnus of the Lycée des Nations. The photograph below, taken from the 1974 Yearbook of the Lycée, shows John and Mary seated next to each other, the first and second people in the middle row. (For the complete name list pleasedownload the Yearbook.)

Our condolences go to John and his extended family.
