Erna "Musy" Gras passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 3 October 2017, in her Vésenaz retirement home, where she had been living for the past three years.  Madame Gras, wife of well-loved Pierre Gras, former Latin and Greek teacher and librarian at LGB, worked at the French-side Admissions Office, from 1956 to 1979.

Alejandro Rodríguez-Giovo, Foundation archivist, shares these few words:

"Musy" Gras, as Mme Erna Gras was known to all her friends and acquaintances, was an eminently refined, polished and cultivated polyglot who combined felicitously her deep-rooted Swiss heritage with a quintessentially multicultural, Ecolintian outlook.

To interact with her was invariably a civilizing experience, an insight into a courteous and calm mode of existence that scarcely subsists in today's mindlessly fast-paced society. With her husband, the legendary Librarian and teacher of ancient Greek and Latin, Peter (Pierre) Gras, Musy formed a gentle and discreet but iconic couple in La Grande Boissière, remembered with fondness and respect by former colleagues and generations of students at La Grande Boissière.

Erna Gras featured on our "Former Staff: Then and Now" Section back in May 2015. You can read her interview here.

The ceremony to remember her life will be held on the LGB campus on 27 November at 14:30, in the salle des Professeurs, which used to be the school library.

I was in my twenties when I joined Ecolint in 1966 to work in the office of La Grande Boissière as Admissions Secretary but for the Engllsh side. I was downstairs and Musy was upstairs. She was always calm, helpful and so pleasant. I remember she loved English tea, in particular Earl Grey, also a favourite of mine. Her office was always a calm retreat from the sometimes explosive atomosphere downstairs emanating from the Accountants' Office. I am so sorry to hear of her death and will remember her with great affection - Diana Stevens (Wise)
