A message on anti-racism from our Director General

Dear Ecolint alumni,

With your connection to Ecolint, you will know that our charter demands from us that:

The activity of the school in all fields and especially in the field of pedagogy shall be based on the principles of equality and solidarity among all peoples and of the equal value of all human beings without any distinction of nationality, race, sex, language or religion.”

You will also know that words on a page do not always translate into the lived experience of every student or member of staff. And phrases are no vaccine against an attack, done consciously or unconsciously, on the dignity and worth of another human being based on skin color. We know this happens at Ecolint as it does across the world. And we must not tolerate it.

I know that we can do much more at Ecolint to be more intentional and focused on being anti-racist. And we will. This will require that we have difficult conversations and that we engage and hold ourselves accountable for making concrete progress, from the content of our curriculum to the diversity of our teaching staff and many more things in between. None of us can be exempt from this work when we are all capable, as human beings, of transgressing against the principle of the equal value of all human beings.

I will write more about some of the multi-year initiatives we are taking at Ecolint. I am delighted to be working with the Association de Parents pour la Promotion d’une Éducation Anti-Raciste (APPEAR) which was launched last school year at Ecolint.

Several of our parents, staff, students and alumni joined the Black Lives Matter march held recently in Geneva. We are dedicated to this movement and will do everything we can to add to its momentum and the power that comes from all of us working together to end systemic racism.

Kind regards,

David Hawley
Director General
