Bob Rae (LGB '66) has just been appointed Canadian Ambassador to the UN by Justin Trudeau. Robin Dormer, Bob's Ecolint-days contemporary, has written the following:

"I am sure Bob Rae (LGB 1966) will be too modest to mention this here himself, but as some of us have probably already heard, he has just been appointed Canadian Ambassador to the UN.

Those of us who remember him from Geneva times will I think feel that this is a very fitting step in a distinguished political career.  He follows in the footsteps of his father, who occupied the same post.  At Ecolint he already showed signs of the distinction to follow, and gave the valedictorian address at the graduation ceremony in 1966, as some of us will remember; he returned in 1994 to give the keynote address to the Ecolint World Reunion.

He also gave the best performance I have ever seen of the role of the Duke of Plaza-Toro, in Ecolint’s production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Gondoliers in 1966; and in that year he was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” for the purposes of Echo, which was then the name of the Ecolint yearbook."
