A big marmite in the Big Apple

This year's Escalade Dinners were rounded off on Saturday 13 December in Washington and New York City. In the latter the US Northeast Chapter, ably led by Peggy Troupin (LGB '60) and Charles Potter (LGB '62), welcomed 24 people. Peggy sent us a few photos and the report below.

We were, in the end, 24 people at the Scaletta Restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan—a very respectable showing. We got rave reviews on: the food, the wine, the ambiance, the MARMITE, and the event.

We had a private room and were able to start at 6 p.m., which was appreciated by those who have to travel from outside the city. A particular hit was a cocktail hour in the room with hors d’oeuvres passed around on trays while people had their drinks and chatted. It got the evening off to a very warm start.

We had a nice mix of Ecolinters who have been coming over the years and some new faces. Judy Thomas (see picture) told the Escalade story, we sang “La Belle Escalade,” and of course broke the marmite, with curses to the Duke de Savoie. Although, maybe we should think more kindly of the old guy in  future; without him we wouldn’t have this enjoyable holiday.

A complete list of alumni who attended is: Marina Bacic (LGB '79), John Bonora (LGB '67), Rock Brynner (LGB '63), Hamilton Bunge (LGB '88), Richard Clare (LGB '66), Elizabeth Frank (LGB '63), Riva Freifeld (LGB '61), Jorge Luis Gallegos (LGB '02), Victor Han (LGB '68), Megan Heister (LGB '95), Eva Inoue Colacicco (LGB '65), Sandra Thompson-Jarp ('63), Simon Laven (LGB '99), Eva Lowenstein Cagianese (LGB '66), Joan Musitano (LB '66), Charles Potter (LGB '62), Ellen Sherman Schwartz (LGB '59), Judy Thomas (LGB '66), Peggy Troupin (LGB '60), Jacquie Ullendorf-Ahrens ('63).
